ABOUT US

You are welcomed to The Square and Compass!

Originally, this 18th century building was occupied by the village blacksmith, during which time it became the hub of the village; it was later converted into a pub in the 1960s.

Nestling on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, our pub offers magnificent local views, together with plenty of opportunities for rambling, and inspiring mountain walking.

Our pub is a traditional family pub – it is known locally for its wonderful rustic charm, and a warm and friendly welcome.

John, Nathan, Pat and the rest of the family look forward to seeing you.

Come on in, and join us – you’ll be welcomed!

BEVERAGES

As you now know, we take great pride in offering you a range of craft ales.

Allow us to give you the background on our favourites:

beer OSB
beer Pecker Wrecker
delilah
beer Cwrw Haf
A rich red premium cask ale produced using pale ale, crystal and wheat malt. A full fruity/citrus hop flavour of willamette and fuggle with the light aroma of goldings.

Bronze medalist at The GBBF 1999 and runner up in The Champion Ale of Wales 1999.

A full flavoured amber ale produced using the finest malted barley.

A rich fruity beer with a gentle hop finish.

Delilah is a light golden blonde ale produced using the finest malted barley and American hops, to give you a crisp, refreshing taste with zesty citrus flavours and a hint of spice.

So go on – try try try Delilah!

Very light in colour, produced using no coloured malts, but strong in character and flavour.

A blend of golding, fuggle and cascade hops gives this beer a wonderfully refreshing zesty, citrus taste and a light summer aroma.
beer Summer Gold
beer Six Nations Ale
beer digger
beer Boss Blaze

Gold-orange in colour, there are delicate lemony notes on the nose with a hint of grassiness in the background.

The mouth-feel is light and refreshing, enabling an ethereal fruitiness to make its mark on the palate.

Our seasonal favourite celebrating theWorld’s most popular Rugby event.

Six Nations Ale is a rich full-flavoured amber coloured beer, produced using the finest Marris Otter Malt, with Goldings and Fuggle hops, giving you a full fruity ale with a gentle bitter finish.

Joining the roster of our established regular ales, this golden ale is to be enjoyed all year round.

A simple blend of pale and wheat malts give an easy drinking ale, which lets the lemon, marmalade, lychee and grapefruit character of the US and UK hop varieties impart a pleasant bitterness and wonderful aroma.

Ah, the siren call of liquid sunshine in a bottle! Dive into this thirst-quenching, easy-drinking golden ale and get lost in a laid-back land that is brimming with citrus, honey and refreshing grapefruit.

Best of all, this fresh, zingy beer evokes feel-good memories of beer gardens in beautiful summer sun – bliss!

    1: Ray discusses hair

In a region of the pub where hair is at a minimum, Ray attempts to push home his tenuous advantage by offering the back of Ow’s head a variety of off-the-cuff hair statistics.
